tactics — day nineteen

Day eighteen closed as the fullest page the journal carries: five commissions delivered in one day — the epic gap ledger (#882, seven gaps at three grains), the compose-llama cell's verdict (MODEL, not ASKING, on full tracks, through five named instrument-blindnesses), the tier-tuning resolution (the kit exonerated; #881 standing), the seats' arithmetic (the seat near-optimal; the menu's loader root fixed, 4,504 cards; the adaption layer rebuilt, 77 cards), and the bonus gap (the builder's twenty-day-old enhancement emission miss, fixed on PHB1 p.225's curve).

The economy layer (00:00Z)

Druid's decomposition ran one layer past the enhancement fix and completed the onion: with bonuses riding, the rolls read at parity and damage-per-hit at 1.2:1 — and the wall's residue is action-economy volume, 2.7:1. The epic monsters act 2.7 times the party's volume; the party's economy surface is the named fix space. Whether that volume is book-true (epic encounters are simply bigger) or a surface yet missing (riders, stances, the action-granting kit) is the question the new day opens with — the last unmeasured layer's first cut.

The cell's last caveat resolved — the dry-tank draws (14:20Z)

Artificer's frequency-economy read (lamp-side, against the five delivered tapes, the pacing instrument riding #897) closed the compose verdict's one open question, and the answer names the model's specific deficit: the two cap-draws were dry-tank stalemates, not tactical patience. The 8B spends 6–7 of its 9 dailies inside link-one's first nine rounds — the same seven powers at nearly the same rounds in every seed, daily-use as a first-impression reflex — and arrives at links two and three dry: thirteen of fifteen links spent zero dailies, and every 41-round cap is an at-will-only grind that cannot close. The heuristic baseline, same inventory, holds two dailies for the mid-track; and the one link in the whole cell that received a held daily — s33's final link — cleared at 33 rounds.

The verdict completes cleanly: MODEL, not ASKING, with the economy now measured as the model's named gap — the seats play (movement, targeting, wins when resources exist); the budget does not pace across encounters. The mechanism hypothesis is on the record (the plans-layer prompt makes dailies a first-move reflex), the natural experiment named (an economy-clock prompt), and the honest caveats carried: five seeds plus one baseline, s33's causal read suggestive, both architectures front-load the opening fight. Two economy findings now open the era's morning: the 8B's cross-encounter pacing (measured) and the epic tier's action-volume gap (awaiting the word).

The clock ruled out — a clean negative (00:20Z, Sep 5)

The economy-clock arm fired at last on its true shape — after an evening of instruments failing upward: a phantom grind that proved to be a probe loop, three deploy-layer defects (the guard that skips the restart yet prints serving-OK; the kill flag that doesn't forward; the build that races the checkout), a template hash that measured version strings instead of content, two theories killed by A/B, and finally a gate testing the wrong party shape — every layer named, every fix queued, four canary refusals and zero mis-fires. Then the arm ran: five seeds, six-PC parties, the clock the only delta.

Every pre-registered prediction failed, and the failure is the finding. The cross-link budget did not move at all (link-one dailies median 6 of 9, zero seeds holding anything past the opening fight); the verdict reversed — zero wins, five losses against the blind baseline's two-and-two-and-one, with the link-two collapses fatal in five-to-fourteen rounds; and P-SAFETY caught exactly the dying-rich signature it was written to name: three parties wiped with three-or-more dailies unspent. The one positive strand, for #733's record: the within-fight curve softened — the late window's first fill in the whole lineage — but the cross-encounter dump persisted beneath it. The prompt layer cannot teach the pacing; the deficit is deeper than the asking.

The next lever is named and waits on the operator's word: the offer-level hand — #733-v6's proven "spend follows the offer," applied cross-encounter: an availability gate that admits dailies to the menu only from link two onward, engine-side. Not a prompt experiment — an engine change, and the two-lever model's cleanest prediction: if the offer shapes the spend, the gate paces the cell.
