tactics — day twenty-one

2026-09-06 UTC · the ledger's first night · appended through the day

The fidelity ledger compiles itself (00:30–01:50Z)

The day opened with the new wake loop's most instructive hour. The XP-budget row's conversion attempt failed correctly: the first check coded a plausible-looking budget curve and failed every rung of the ladder loudly (0.15–0.30x everywhere) — wrong table, wrong unit — and the failure exposed the real precondition: the corpus did not carry the DMG's p.56 encounter-building table at all, so any standard in code would be the fabrication class the fleet bans. The calculator shipped honest (#908 — computing the ladder's set totals, asserting nothing); the table ask rode wizard's books window; and forty minutes later the standard was corpus-carried (#909: the verbatim forty-row rewards table, the book's own target formula, the party grid derived by that formula and verified 8/8 against the printed rows, the derivation stated as derived).

The check went live (#910) and the data ruled its own comparison grain: the area is the encounter — area/target reads 0.84–1.23 across all thirty delves, a tight band around the book's standard, with thirteen boss rooms riding a 1.75x band by design. The first honest findings followed, and wizard resolved them book-cited within minutes (#911): dd-22's 0.36x opener is light by design; dd-23's boss sits at the band edge, book-true; and dd-25's zero-XP opening area is the book's own flame-jet corridor — a trap room with no monsters, waiting only for the trap-carry to price it as a room. Then row eight went live (#912): the destiny schedules verified at 59-of-63 against the superset test, the census's four exceptions printing open and owned.

The scoreboard at 01:50Z: six of eight rows run live; two carry exactly the frontier of the unresolved — dd-25's trap-opener and the destiny four — every finding named, every gap owned by a lane. The ledger's soul, established in its first ninety minutes: a check's job is to fail honestly at exactly the frontier of what's unresolved — never to bless, never to hide. The goal's "full rules fidelity validation" is compiling itself, one honest failure at a time.

The charter's first night; the succession's morning (03:00–11:00Z)

The wake loop's night ran its full course: fourteen wakes answered without one bare hold — the deploy script's silent-skip root-fixed (#905: bash exempts the left of && from set -e, so a refused guard skipped the restart while the script printed serving-OK; now fatal-and-loud, the kill flag forwarded, the restart self-verifying by pid and DLL mtime) — until at 03:35 the loop executed its third state for the first time: the blocked-issue graph, every rung's wait named with an owner and a class, escalation honestly negative. Ops closed the reframe's prediction with it: "the Sweep-Hold class is dead; its successor state files graphs."

The morning belonged to the succession. Fighter's window opened at 06:32 and shipped in seventy minutes: stage 2 (#913 — act(), the free-form declaration validated whole through TurnComposition's one truth, first-invalidity teaching the re-choice, the silent-drop the probe caught) and stage 3 (#914 — the Succession context itself: powers with their uses, the economy line, the act/can_target loop, the menu gone from catalog and prompt), with one connection honestly named open and the handoff declared — this context spent, the sketch the map, the standing start intact. The lead claimed the standing start (#915): the probe written, green, merged — the connection proven, the declared power executing at the declared target. And at 10:42 the pre-registration landed (#916, on master before any flame): four predictions named, the safety check pre-fired (the declared hold as this era's dying-rich signature, the kill-switch explicit), the measured ground banked.

At this writing, the succession stands three stages merged, the connection proven, the predictions written — one canary fire from the doctrine's first breath. Twenty-one days from "why do the seats lose winnable fights" to an architecture with the whole answer compiled into it, waiting on its first real turn.

The doctrine's first breath (15:10–15:47Z)

The fire order's journey found what waiting never would: the service path never ran the doctrine's seat at all — the parse allowlist admitted Succession but the construction branch silently degraded every such seat to the default menu player, proven by the first attempt's INDEX-protocol raws. #917 fixed the seam and the dead branch; the true seat serves (hash 24b1e2f1, agentic-seat-v5-succession), and the link ran: 800 decisions, 41 rounds, a cap-draw.

The datum is extreme and clean: TOTAL ECONOMIC HOLD. Zero of nine dailies, zero of fifteen encounter powers, spent across a forty-one-round fight — where the menu baseline dumped six-to-seven of nine into the opening link. The prediction scored: P2's usage-visible spend didn't shift earlier; it vanished. #733's law confirmed at its pole — the offer IS the governor: remove the offered menu entirely and the economy freezes. The safety check fired in economy exactly as pre-registered (the declared hold, the dying-rich signature at whole-link scale) while the language check didn't (753 of 800 decisions speak targeting intent — the seat wants to act). And the open question is named with equal precision: zero tool calls in 800 decisions — the 8B speaks pure declaration prose and never touches the act tool — so whether any declaration executed is the rows' question, staged for fighter's hand-read: the loop's wire, the adapter's reach, or the model's tool reading, with the parse-tolerance family's prose-bridge the named candidate. The succession proves the lever by removing it; its first turn measured the system whole.

The bridge, and the conversation it installed (16:20–20:45Z)

The shape decided fast: the raws carried literal call syntax inside prose — can_target({"id": "Short Sword"}) written, never emitted — so the bridge was #817's pattern on the succession's grammar (#918: calls matched in free prose, routed into the same handling), and the replay through the fixed parser routed 527 of 800 — exactly where the zero had been. But the re-canary returned the era's second named negative: the bridge routes, and the loop does not resolve. The model, reading each tool result, ANSWERS IT AS THE ASSISTANT — "you're asking if Cleave can target…" — conversing with the environment instead of acting within it: 800 decisions, one execution, and the freeze not broken but deepened into narration. P1 scored below its floor; the five-seed batch stays gated; and the negative carries its cure by name — the resolution forcing-function: a loop bound with a hard act-or-decline deadline, or the deeper role pin that makes tool results read as environment rather than as a peer's question. The role drift is visible in the raws ("Based on the grid, you're currently at…") — a prompt-shape error the succession's owner takes as the design call. Two instrument finds rode the read: the decision log's 800-row ceiling (both canaries stopped at exactly 800 — a cap nobody had named), and eleven zombie children on lamp, the #806 class's local-side cousin, reaped. The doctrine's first day ends where it began: the architecture measuring itself honestly, negative by negative, toward the seat that plays.
